In a vibrant display of athletic skill and professional solidarity, the women of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEVEL) faced off against their counterparts from the Yaoundé III City Council in a friendly football match.

Held late yesterday morning at the Yaoundé Military Stadium, the event was a key highlight of the commemorative week leading up to International Women’s Rights Day on March 8. The match concluded in a well-fought 1-1 draw, reflecting a balanced competition defined by fair play and sincere camaraderie.

The encounter went beyond the final score, serving as a platform to recognize individual and collective excellence with the decentralization sector. Following the match, honorary distinctions were awarded to celebrate the diverse talents of the participants.

Key awards included “Woman of the Match,” “Best Player” for each side, and “Best Organizer.” Special recognition was also given to the team with the most effective information sharing and the most vibrant fan club, highlighting the importance of communication and community support in a professional setting.

This sporting initiative eloquently illustrates the vitality of female commitment within Cameroon’s administrative landscape. By stepping onto the pitch, these women demonstrated that leadership and cohesion are not confined to the boardroom. The event emphasized how sports can be used as a powerful tool to promote the physical well-being, personal fulfillment, and social integration of women who are at the forefront of local development and governance.

As the celebratory week continues, the focus shifts from the football field to intellectual discourse. The next major event is taking place this Thursday, March 5, featuring a high-level roundtable discussion at MINDDEVEL Annex C.

This transition from physical activity to strategic dialogue underscores the ministry’s holistic approach to honoring women—valuing both their physical energy and their intellectual contributions to the nation’s decentralization goals.
