The National Tourism Council, chaired by Prime Minister H.E. Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, has officially endorsed the Smart City Mondoli-Limbe project. This was during an extraordinary session held on April 7, 2026 at the Prime Minister’s services.

This massive ecotourism and digital development initiative is recognized as a strategic catalyst for Cameroon’s emergence, designed to transform the economic landscape through innovation.

Following intensive deliberations, the Council has mandated an Interministerial Strategic Committee to oversee the effective implementation and follow-up of this landmark venture.
Promoted by Dr. Sammy Tita Fombang, the Smart City Mondoli-Limbe is an integrated, mixed-use development sprawling across approximately 125 hectares in the Southwest Region’s Limbe-Mondoli corridor.

The project is meticulously aligned with the National Development Strategy 2030 – SND30 and the broader Vision 2035, positioning itself as a key contributor to national development. By merging tourism with modern digital infrastructure, the initiative seeks to create a sustainable urban ecosystem that reflects international development standards.

The economic impact of the project is expected to be profound, with projections estimating the creation of 10,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. Council members emphasized the project’s immense potential to stimulate local growth, enhance infrastructure, and elevate Cameroon’s profile as a premier global travel destination.

The integration of high-end tourism facilities with residential and commercial zones is anticipated to trigger a wave of economic transformation throughout the coastal region.

The session wrapped up with a call for seamless interministerial coordination to ensure the project’s success in areas such as infrastructure planning and destination promotion. With the adoption of a formal resolution, the Permanent Secretary of the Council has been tasked with the regular monitoring of progress.

As a cornerstone of the nation’s future urban strategy, Smart City Mondoli-Limbe stands as a testament to Cameroon’s commitment to sustainable growth and the digital empowerment of its citizens.
