The Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam, proceeded on Tuesday April 21, 2026 to the official commissioning of the new Mengang Municipal Housing Estate in the Nyong and Mfoumou Division.

This architectural milestone is a key achievement of the Municipal Housing Construction Program, designed to modernize local infrastructure and improve living standards within the region. The inauguration serves as a tangible symbol of the government’s ongoing efforts to decentralize development and empower local councils.

The project was made possible through a strategic partnership involving several key institutions, highlighting a successful synergy between the public and financial sectors. The Cameroon land credit,  best known by the abbreviation CFC provided the necessary financial backing, while FEICOM, acting as the financial arm of local municipalities, collaborated with the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon – UCCC to bring the vision to life. This collaborative model demonstrates how integrated institutional support can effectively address housing shortages at the grassroots level.

Beyond its physical structure, the new housing estate aligns with Cameroon’s broader developmental goals, specifically the National Development Strategy – SND30 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 11 for sustainable cities and communities.

By focusing on structural economic transformation starting from local territories, the Ministry of Decentralization – MINDDEVEL is actively building the foundation for a more prosperous and decentralized Cameroon. This initiative reaffirms the state’s commitment to providing decent housing and fostering growth through local action.
