Under the high Instructions of the Head of State, Head of Cameroonian Diplomacy, the Minister of External Relations dispatched an official emergency delegation to Tel Aviv, Israel, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
The mission is to take part in the funeral ceremonies and carry out the necessary procedures for the repatriation of the remains of H.E. Jean-Pierre BIYITI Bi ESSAM, the outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cameroon to Israel, who passed away on April 23, 2026, following an illness.
Led by CHINMOUN Oumarou, Minister Plenipotentiary and Secretary General of MINREX, and supported by Mr. TAÏNO KARI Alain Désiré, Chargé d’Affaires, the delegation included NOAH Stéphane Christel, Deputy Director for the Far East, Pacific, and Oceania; Mrs. ASSO’O Odette, Deputy Director of Consular Affairs; and Mr. NKONGO A BOULL Lucien, Head of Service at the Directorate of General Affairs.
On this occasion, Secretary General CHINMOUN was received in audience on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by his Israeli counterpart, Mr. EDEN BAR TAL.
In addition to conveying the Cameroonian Government’s gratitude to the Israeli authorities for their multifaceted support and care since the Ambassador’s passing, the two officials seized the opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest regarding cooperation between the two countries.
In accordance with the jointly agreed schedule, a solemn tribute ceremony will take place this Thursday, May 7, 2026, ahead of the repatriation of the Ambassador’s remains, which are scheduled to arrive in Yaoundé on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 1:50 PM.
