The Presidential Guard sports complex officially kicked off the 8th edition of the “GP Sports Vacances 2026” program on June 22, 2026. This annual summer initiative seamlessly blends athletic training, military-grade discipline, and civic education to promote national unity among young people.

The colorful opening ceremony featured the performance of the national anthem by the Presidential Guard Band and an ecumenical prayer led by Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim chaplains to bless the season’s activities.

​The event gained star power with the attendance of two prestigious special guests: the captain of the Indomitable Lions and the national football team’s star goalkeeper. Both athletes shared their personal journeys to inspire the youth with core values of courage, respect, and perseverance. Following a vibrant parade of participants, Colonel Raymond Jean Charles BEKO’O ABONDO, Commander of the Presidential Guard, personally toured the site, warmly encouraging both the enthusiastic children and their instructors.

​This year’s edition expands its traditional curriculum to include 25 diverse modules, highlighted by the introduction of two brand-new workshops: Nanbudo, a martial art focusing on physical and mental balance, and culinary arts, introduced as a tool for personal development.

Alongside manual trades and sports, the young participants will also engage in educational field trips to historical institutions in Yaounde, including the National Museum, the Reunification Monument, the Palais des Congrès, and Independence Square.

​Ultimately, “GP Sports Vacances” serves as more than just a summer camp; it represents a strategic investment in Cameroon’s future. By introducing youth to national history, cultural diversity, and shared values, the Presidential Guard reinforces its community role beyond defense.

Through these combined efforts in sport, culture, and history, the initiative firmly establishes itself as a vital pillar for national cohesion and civic engagement.
