Following the recent circulation of videos of young girls on social media portraying the use of drugs and display of obscene content, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family – MINPROFF, Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa has made public a press release condemning these various acts which are contrary to ethical standards and family values.

The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Mrs ABENA ONDOA née OBAMA Marie Thérèse, expresses her deep concern over the resurgence of behaviour contrary to ethical standards and social and family values observed among some young girls.

These attitudes are manifested through the posting of inappropriate content on social media that promote the use of harmful substances, the quest of easy money, as well as extreme moral depravity, thereby trivialising violence and immorality.

The Minister is deeply outraged by these actions which tarnish the reputation of the young girl. While condemning all forms of abuse against women in general and girls in particular, she emphasises that human dignity is non-negotiable. She therefore urges young girls to return to healthy and responsible behaviour, and parents to take their responsibilities to ensure the protection of their children.

The Minister points out that MINPROFF has a child helpline (116) for reporting cases of abuse, and that the ongoing digital campaign “I protect the child everywhere – do the same” is a call to action for everyone to help ensure that children are better protected and cared for.

The Central and Decentralised Services, as well as the Women and Family Empowerment Centres, remain fully available to provide the necessary assistance.
