The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Pauline Nalova Lyonga, officially released the 2026 General Certificate of Education – GCE and Technical and Vocational Education Examination – TVEE results on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Out of 196,579 candidates who sat for the examinations across all subsystems, 133,429 successfully passed, bringing the overall national pass rate to 67.88%, a noticeable decline from the 75.46% recorded in 2025. The general sub-system experienced drops across both levels, with the GCE Ordinary Level achieving a 74.43% pass rate (65,539 out of 88,053 candidates) and the Advanced Level dropping significantly by 17.60% to settle at a 61.78% pass rate (43,211 out of 69,947 candidates). Conversely, technical streams saw positive growth: the TVEE Intermediate Level rose to 60.50% (16,804 passed of 27,775 sat), while the TVEE Advanced Level climbed to 72.89% (7,875 passed of 10,804 sat). Regular school students clearly outpaced external candidates, recording a 73.76% pass rate compared to 49.40%.
Regional and divisional performances highlighted key areas of academic excellence, led by the Centre Region at the Ordinary Level with 78.95% and the South West Region at the Advanced Level with 64.98%. On the divisional front, Manyu Division dominated the Ordinary Level with a 90.10% success rate, while Koung-Khi Division led at the Advanced Level with 88.89%. Subject-wise performance reached outstanding peaks, with Logic recording a 91.06% pass rate and Cinematic Art joining several TVEE technical specialties in achieving a perfect 100% pass rate. Top individual achievements featured 194 Ordinary Level candidates scoring 33 points and 114 Advanced Level candidates obtaining 25 points, while 32 Advanced Level examination centers achieved a 100% pass rate.
However, the examination session was not without controversy, as strict zero-tolerance policies resulted in 2,792 malpractice cases being sanctioned following rescheduled general written papers. Candidates are advised to confirm their individual results directly at their respective registration centers or through the official board portal.
