Work on Lot 3 of the Mbalmayo–Sangmélima road—stretching 33 kilometers from Nkout II to the intersection featuring the monument dedicated to the Head of State has recently experienced significant slowdowns.
To assess the situation and define concrete measures to resume execution, the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, hosted a working session on August 26, 2026, with senior executives from Razel BEC, including International Director Alain Besson and country manager Frédéric Flacassier.
The working session focused primarily on the physical progress of ongoing projects, the status of pending payment certificates, and the contractor’s site mobilization. To date, Razel Cameroon has submitted payment statements totaling over 68 billion FCFA, of which 53 billion FCFA has already been settled. Approximately 10 billion FCFA is currently moving through the official payment pipeline, while the remaining balance continues to follow standard administrative settlement procedures.
Addressing the financial backlog, Minister Nganou Djoumessi noted that funding constraints form part of a broader economic context affecting public works. Reassuring the contractor, the Minister reaffirmed the Cameroonian government’s firm commitment to honoring its contractual obligations and maintaining dedicated efforts to progressively clear outstanding arrears owed to construction partners.
Regarding Lot 3 of the Mbalmayo–Sangmélima corridor, Razel leadership assured the government of full operational remobilization in the coming days. The company confirmed that preliminary site preparation and material procurement are already underway, committing to launch initial test-strip paving trials shortly to kickstart full-scale construction activities.
The meeting also reviewed the status of the completed Logone River Bridge project, which has already been formally delivered. Due to the cross-border nature of this binational project, specific administrative procedures remain necessary to finalize and settle the ultimate accounts.
Minister Nganou Djoumessi stated that coordinated joint actions are currently underway among key regional stakeholders to officially close out the project under optimal conditions.
