The crucial role of veterinary medicine in safeguarding animal health, protecting public health, and driving national development took center stage during the 5th edition of CAPHAVET Veterinary Day held at the Ngaoundéré regional council.

The event brought together veterinary professionals, livestock farmers, public authorities, and key stakeholders to discuss strategic solutions for disease prevention, livestock productivity, and the establishment of a sustainable animal health system in Cameroon.

In his address to participants, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taïga, underscored the vital contributions of veterinary practice toward achieving the nation’s broader livestock development targets.

Discussions throughout the gathering emphasized the imperative to strengthen veterinary infrastructure while fostering tighter collaboration among private practitioners, farmers, and government agencies to build a resilient and integrated health system.

A key highlight of the proceedings was an inaugural lesson tracing the historical evolution and privatization process of private veterinary practice in Cameroon. The presentation offered a detailed reflection on the growth of private veterinary services, highlighting their complementary relationship with public veterinary authorities in disease surveillance, control, and prevention, while examining ongoing challenges and prospective opportunities within the sector.

The celebration culminated in the signing of a major partnership agreement between CAPHAVET and the National Veterinary Laboratory – LANAVET.

Designed to boost institutional synergy, this partnership will enhance veterinary diagnostics, epidemiological surveillance, and field practice, ultimately fortifying animal health protection and boosting the overall performance of Cameroon’s livestock industry.
