Construction on the Bamenda urban crossing dual carriageway in the North-West Region of Cameroon has reached a physical execution rate of 50.50% as of October 10, 2026.

Executed by the construction firm Bun’s, the infrastructure initiative shows a steady progress. While preparing to ramp up pavement operations, project teams are currently concentrating their efforts on slope protection and embankment stabilization across the corridor.

General earthworks and right-of-way clearing are nearly complete, with the subgrade now extended over approximately 5 kilometers of the project length and the road platform prepared over 4.6 kilometers. Bun’s has also begun laying the road base course, completing nearly 4 kilometers so far.

Hydraulic structures are fully constructed, and drainage works have advanced rapidly, with 5,760 linear meters of prefabricated gutters installed out of the total 6,580 linear meters planned.

To further widen the work zone and accelerate paving, priority is being given to relocating public utility networks belonging to CAMWATER, ENEO, and CAMTEL. Subcontractors have already made headway on this front, installing fiber optic cable conduits between kilometers 2+750 and 2+800. Clearing these service lines is critical to ensuring uninterrupted paving operations across the full 2×2 lane layout.

Serving as a vital link connecting the Bamenda-Babadjou highway to the Bamenda-Ekok transit corridor, the urban crossing is funded with technical and financial support from the World Bank.

Once completed, the upgraded dual carriageway is expected to significantly reduce urban congestion, enhance regional mobility, and facilitate trade along major economic routes in West Africa.
