Despite heavy morning rain on October 12, 2026, hundreds of residents gathered in the streets of Bamenda to participate in a solidarity walk aimed at combatting breast cancer.

Led by the North West Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr. Ambe Lionel, the march served as a public demonstration to promote cancer awareness, advocate for early detection, and encourage preventative health measures across the region as part of the global Pink October campaign.

The public walk forms part of a broader community initiative supported by key partners, including Alliance Française de Bamenda, the NGO OWED, and AFG Bank. Throughout the campaign month, organizing partners are rolling out multi-channel outreach strategies, including targeted radio educational talks and accessible breast cancer screenings to ensure life-saving health information reaches a wide audience.

Health advocates emphasize that early detection remains the most effective tool in improving survival rates and treatment outcomes for breast cancer. By mobilizing the local community through visible public events, organizers aim to break social stigmas, dispel common misconceptions surrounding the disease, and empower individuals to seek routine medical examinations and self-checks.

The ongoing Pink October activities in Bamenda will culminate on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Alliance Française de Bamenda Hall.

The closing event will feature a comprehensive public conference, interactive educational sessions, and sensitisation drama sketches designed to equip community members with practical knowledge on cancer prevention and care.
