The traffic accident occurred on November 28, 2023 at the place called Banefo in the subdivision of Bafoussam 1.
Two vehicles collided yesterday in Bafoussam, West region. A lorry carrying goods with the licence plate number SW 013 AA, travelling in the direction of Bafoussam-Foumbot, collided head-on with a Hiace public transport minibus with the licence plate number LT 768 LN, belonging to the company Avenir du Noun.
According to the region’s governor, Awa Fonka Augustine, the provisional death toll is eight, four on the spot and four at the health centre. The 11 people injured, some of them seriously, have been taken to the regional hospital in Kouekong.
According to an administrative press release, seven of the 11 have been identified. Four of the injured have serious head injuries and have yet to have a body count. Similarly, four of the dead have been identified, while the other four have not yet been identified.
According to the governor’s statement and witnesses, the collision occurred when the truck carrying goods was overtaking another truck. While overtaking, the truck collided with a bus carrying passengers travelling in the opposite direction. Inadequate overtaking manoeuvres and speeding are believed to have been the main causes of the accident.
