It was in an atmosphere filled with emotion and solemnity that the nation welcomed the remains of Brigadier General Simon Ezo’o Mvondo, who passed away abroad on July 14, 2026.

The aircraft transporting the general officer’s body from India landed on the tarmac of the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11:30 AM. The official reception ceremony was presided over by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Yves Etoga, alongside grieving family members and a distinguished gathering of civil, traditional, and military authorities.

The ceremony carried high symbolic weight, structured by official military honors that paid tribute to a high-ranking officer who dedicated his life to the homeland. Throughout his distinguished career, the deceased embodied the core values of excellence, discipline, loyalty, and devotion to duty. He leaves behind a memorable legacy for his brothers-in-arms and the entire nation.

Following the military honors given, the body was escorted to the airport’s VIP lounge, where a funeral service took place according to the family’s program. Relatives, dignitaries, and fellow soldiers gathered in prayer and remembrance. The funeral procession subsequently made its way to the Yaounde General Hospital mortuary, where the body will rest awaiting the official funeral program to be scheduled by the Military Command.

Appointed Brigadier General in 2015, General Ezo’o Mvondo was a graduate of the “Rudolf Douala Manga Bell” class of the Combined Arms Military Academy (EMIA, 1983–1986). He distinguished himself across several major security theaters, most notably during Operation Delta in the Bakassi Peninsula. Since 2017, he had been serving as the Commander of the First Inter-Army Military Region – RMIA1 based in Yaounde.

The Republic bows with deep respect before the memory of a great servant of the state. His heroic journey remains etched in gold letters within the history of the Cameroonian Armed Forces.
