Commemorating the first anniversary of his death, the current national president of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) recalls the work of his predecessor.

On April 12, 2023, Ni John Fru Ndi, National President of the SDF, left this world for eternity at the age of 81. It was exactly one year ago that the historic opponent of President Paul Biya left the party he had founded on May 26, 1990, at an important moment in its restructuring in preparation for the forthcoming elections.

In a publication, his successor, elected on Sunday October 29, 2023 at the party’s last congress, pays tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the former leader. Since the return of multipartism in Cameroon in 1990, he has been able to stand up against all odds. The new leader pays tribute to Fru Ndi’s sacrifices and commitment to the cause of democracy. Here is his message in full.

“One of the greatest honours of my life has been the privilege of working side by side with President Fru Ndi in defending the cause of democracy, and the recognition of the immense sacrifices he has made to bring multi-party politics and civil liberties to Cameroon.

On this solemn occasion of the first anniversary of his death, we pay tribute to his unwavering courage and the profound sacrifices he made for our country. We owe him an immense debt of gratitude, and his legacy will never be forgotten. Although he is no longer with us in the flesh, Ni John Fru Ndi’s visionary ideals and unwavering values remain the guiding light of our party,” Joshua Osih.
