The President of the National Assembly of Cameroon, the Right Honorable Théodore Datouo, fulfilled a key pledge on Thursday, August 6, 2026, aimed at strengthening critical healthcare infrastructure in the West Region.
He officially provided a financial contribution of 40 million FCFA to the Bafoussam Regional Hospital Hemodialysis Center. This donation materializes a commitment made during a thanksgiving meeting held on July 25 in Bafoussam to honor His Excellency President Paul Biya, directly addressing the operational challenges faced by the center due to an increasing demand for kidney failure treatment.
The official ceremony featured a formal handover led by Professor Isaac Tamba, Director of Cabinet to the Speaker of the National Assembly, acting on behalf of the Right Honorable Théodore Datouo.
The 40 million FCFA check was presented to the Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine, alongside the bank domiciliation certificate transferred to Dr. Jules Hilaire Focka Focka, President of the Bafoussam Regional Hospital Management Committee. This joint parliamentary initiative highlights the legislature’s commitment to reinforcing state actions toward improving specialized medical services for vulnerable populations.
Local healthcare administrators and community representatives warmly welcomed the critical funding. Dr. Ndjip Jean Marie, Director of the Bafoussam Regional Hospital, expressed deep gratitude for what he described as an unexpectedly generous gesture that restores hope to both patients and medical personnel.
Representing patients suffering from renal failure, Mr. Njofang Raoul commended the effort, emphasizing that this financial injection responds directly to an urgent, life-saving concern affecting numerous families across the region.
Addressing the assembly, the Governor of the West Region praised the Speaker’s exemplary initiative and called for rigorous, transparent management of the funds to ensure that improving patient care remains the top priority. The governor stressed that the contribution reflects national solidarity and serves as a vital lifeline for individuals battling end-stage renal disease. The ceremony was also distinguished by the presence of traditional authority, notably the Supreme Chief of Baleng, His Majesty Negou Tela Guillaume Alain.
By honoring his promise, the Right Honorable Théodore Datouo reaffirms his commitment to social responsibility, civic solidarity, and direct engagement with local communities. This action demonstrates a dedicated approach to translating political commitments into tangible human development outcomes. Beyond easing the financial strain on the Bafoussam Hemodialysis Center, the contribution establishes a practical framework for parliamentary leadership in advancing public health priorities.
