A crucial step toward protecting vulnerable youth was taken on June 3, 2026 as Professor Abdelkader Filali, President and CEO of the International Research Center on the Prevention of Child Soldiers – CIRPES, met with Cameroon’s Minister of Youth and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou.

During the meeting, Professor Filali presented a sobering global overview of the child soldier crisis across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, identifying poverty, armed conflict, social exclusion, and systemic lack of education as the primary drivers of youth vulnerability. In response, CIRPES outlined its mission to eliminate this crisis through a combination of rigorous field research, proactive prevention, and the holistic reintegration of formerly affected youth into society.

A groundbreaking element of this new alliance is the integration of cutting-edge technology into humanitarian defense. CIRPES intends to pioneer the use of Artificial Intelligence – AI to analyze data, anticipate recruitment risks before they happen, and precisely map geographical zones of high vulnerability.

Recognizing the potential of this data-driven approach, MINJEC officials noted that the partnership could significantly bolster Cameroon’s existing PRONEC-REAMORCE program, which focuses on civic re-armament and moral education. By combining scientific research with local institutional framework, the collaboration aims to shield youth from the deceptive pull of armed groups.

The impact of this strategic partnership will be felt most acutely in Cameroon’s vulnerable border and conflict-affected territories, particularly within the Far-North, North-West, and South-West regions where violent extremism remains a persistent threat. By merging resources, both organizations finalized their meeting with a shared pledge to translate scientific research into rapid, peaceful action and robust civic education.

This united front marks a promising turning point for the nation, offering a protective shield for children and fostering a highly resilient, responsible, and civically engaged generation of young citizens.
