The 2026 edition of the Pinyin Peace and Unity Tournament officially launched on Sunday, July 12, at the Longla Comprehensive College School Field, drew a vibrant crowd of residents and traditional leaders.

Organized by the Pinyin Youth Organization for Rural Development – PYORD, this annual event aims to use sports as a vehicle to promote peaceful coexistence, discipline, and community development within the Pinyin region.

This year’s competition features 15 football teams, kicking off with an energetic opening match between Sunday Sharp FC and Mitanyen FC. Beyond the excitement on the pitch, organizers emphasized that the primary goal is not merely to lift a trophy but to foster friendship and identify emerging sporting talent among the youth. The tournament is set to run for several weeks, offering a high-stakes yet community-focused environment for local athletes.

Addressing the crowd, the Fon of Pinyin, HRM Asobo Kenneth III, lauded the initiative as a crucial platform for social cohesion. He urged the players to embody the spirit of fair play and dignity, regardless of the match outcomes, and tasked referees with maintaining strict impartiality. The traditional leader highlighted that such gatherings are vital for strengthening the bonds of the community, even amidst the various challenges the region has navigated.

The event’s main sponsor, Mekom Samuel Taleh, significantly expanded the scope of this year’s edition. While one million francs CFA was dedicated to the football tournament, an additional five million francs CFA has been allocated for broader youth-centric initiatives, including handball, debates, and a marathon. Taleh equally shared optimistic news regarding the reopening of Government High School Kwang, framing the tournament as part of a wider effort to restore normalcy and educational access in the area.

As the tournament progresses, the residents of Pinyin view the event as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for a brighter future. By merging competitive sports with educational and community activities, organizers hope to inspire the youth and solidify peace in the region.

The successful launch reflects the collaborative efforts of sponsors and community members, all working toward a shared vision of unity and local development.
