The President of the Central African Republic, His Excellency Professor Faustin-Archange Touadéra, recently hosted a high-level audience with a delegation from Plan International RCA in Bangui.
Led by the organization’s Country Director, the meeting focused on accelerating the protection, education, and overall well-being of children and young people across the nation. Plan International commended the Central African government for its ongoing efforts to rebuild education systems and advance child safety despite the persistent hurdles posed by lingering conflict and recurring humanitarian emergencies.
Expressing strong alignment with the humanitarian group’s mission, President Touadéra reaffirmed his unwavering dedication and support to advancing youth development both nationally and across Central Africa. Drawing from his background as an educator, the Head of State emphasized that the doors of his administration remain fully open to initiatives geared towards safeguard of youth. He declared his readiness to step up as a regional champion for the protection of children and girls, committing to lead political efforts among his peers to make child safety a priority in post-conflict environments.
On its part, Plan International RCA highlighted its long-standing operational presence in the Central African Republic, where it has served local communities for over twelve years. Throughout this decade-plus engagement, the organization has invested approximately 100 billion FCFA into development and emergency response programs. These sustained interventions have significantly bolstered access to quality education, gender equality initiatives, youth participation, and community resilience, benefiting thousands of vulnerable children and families nationwide.
A central point of discussion during the audience was the strategic formalization of Plan International’s official status within the country. Establishing a formal operational agreement aims to strengthen the organization’s legal and structural framework. This step will enable Plan International to align its field operations more seamlessly with national priorities, optimize resource distribution, and expand its capacity to support marginalized communities in hard-to-reach areas.
Recognizing the complex challenges still facing young populations across the region, Plan International encouraged the President to leverage his influence to inspire stronger political commitments from neighboring leaders. The call to action stresses that protecting children in post-conflict settings requires robust regional cooperation and sustained funding. By taking on a proactive leadership role, President Touadéra can help drive a broader, coordinated movement to secure the futures of children affected by regional instability.
The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge between the Central African government and Plan International RCA to deepen their collaborative strategic partnership. Both parties reiterated that investing heavily in youth empowerment, particularly for young girls, is indispensable for building a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous future.
