The Minister of Housing and Urban Development Celestine ketcha Courtès visited the Domayo Public Garden on October 4, 2026, for an immersive tour of this recreational and leisure space on the sidelines of activities commemorating the 40th World Habitat Day.

Organized as part of Habitat Week, the event brought together key dignitaries, including the Governor of the Far North Region, the Mayor of Maroua, local administrative leaders, and a delegation from the Tiko Council.

During her walkthrough, Célestine Ketcha Courtès toured the key features of the Domayo Public Garden, including its traditional boukarous, the central jet fountain, and areas enriched by prior greening initiatives. Demonstrating her commitment to urban sustainability, the Minister actively participated in a new tree-planting ceremony alongside regional officials to further enhance the site’s canopy.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized the vital role green spaces and recreational areas play in modern urban design and public health. She established a direct link between thoughtful urban planning and community well-being, noting that these “islands of coolness” provide essential sanctuaries where families can gather, unwind, bond, and breathe clean air—ultimately improving the overall quality of urban life.
