The newly published 2024–2025 Yango Ride Safety Report links region-wide safety gains to updated privacy technology, anti-fraud systems and 24/7 emergency response, reinforced in Cameroon through joint driver training and health check-up programmes with local authorities.
Douala, Cameroon, 3rd September, 2026
Yango Ride, a ride-hailing service and part of the global tech company Yango Group, today published regional findings from its 2024–2025 Safety Report, documenting the technology and support systems designed to make mobility safer for passengers and partner drivers across Africa, including Cameroon.
In July 2025, Yango partnered with the city councils of Douala and Yaoundé to hold two dedicated safety and driver wellbeing events, bringing together more than 100 partner drivers across both cities. Each session combined training on the platform’s in-app safety features with free health check-ups for partner drivers, creating direct dialogue between drivers, municipal authorities, and Yango’s safety experts. Yango has confirmed that a similar safety and driver wellbeing event will return in September 2026, extending the programme’s reach across Cameroon.

The Cameroon events form part of a wider continental push. During 2024–2025, the roll-out of updated driving style analysis and speed control measures led to a 38% reduction in reported reckless driving incidents across the African region as a whole, from 13.05 to 8.08 incidents per million trips. Comparable declines were recorded in Côte d’Ivoire (35%), Zambia (49%), Angola (34%) and Senegal (33%), the same safety framework that now underpins
Yango’s operations in Cameroon.
Following the continued rollout of privacy-protecting call technologies, post-trip contact complaints also fell across several African markets, down 11% in Côte d’Ivoire, 22% in Angola, 8% in Senegal and 4% in Zambia. Urgent support operates 24/7 across all markets where Yango is active, including Cameroon, where technology helps identify urgent requests, while trained specialists retain responsibility for reviewing circumstances and making decisions. In 90% of urgent cases globally, a trained specialist targets to make first contact within 5 minutes.
Technology across every stage of the ride
These results reflect a safety framework that operates before, during, and after every ride on the Yango platform, including in Cameroon, where, before a ride begins, identity and document verification, including driver’s licence checks, recurring selfie controls, and anti-fraud systems, determines who can access the service.
During the ride, passengers and partner drivers can access a Safety Center with the option to share route details with trusted contacts, contact urgent support in case of a conflict, and use the SOS button to reach local emergency services.
Driving style analysis and GPS speed monitoring identify repeated unsafe behaviour and trigger proportionate action, from warnings to removal from the platform. After each trip, both partner driver and passenger can rate and give feedback on one another, which feeds into their profile.
In-app calling keeps communication within protected channels, so neither side needs to share a personal phone number.
“A 38% reduction in reckless driving incidents across Africa didn’t come from one feature or one market solution, it’s the product of technology applied consistently, combined with the expertise and local knowledge our teams bring in each country. That same framework operates before, during, and after every ride, everywhere we work, and results like these are why we keep investing in prevention, detection, and support to ensure better experience for all the users,”
— Roman Karlash, Chief Executive of Yango Ride
Beyond the app: partnerships with local authorities in Cameroon
In Cameroon, Yango’s safety framework extends beyond the app through direct partnership with public institutions. The July 2025 events in Douala and Yaoundé, held in cooperation with the two cities’ municipal authorities, reflect an approach mirrored elsewhere on the continent: in Angola, a Memorandum of Understanding with the Integrated Public Security Center provides a structured channel for cooperation on relevant incidents, while in Zambia the Safer Journeys to School initiative has introduced road safety education and infrastructure improvements reaching approximately 8,000 learners across five schools in Lusaka.
The full Yango Ride Safety Report 2024–2025 is available online in English and French.
Note on methodology: Figures for grave traffic violations and reckless driving incidents are based on classified passenger reports submitted through the platform’s in-app channels. Rates are normalised per million trips to allow comparison across periods and regions. Cameroon-specific incident data was not part of this reporting cycle; regional figures for Africa are presented as the applicable benchmark.
