CAMEROON, 24 September 2026: Yango Ride held two safety events in Yaoundé and Douala this September, bringing together partner drivers and couriers, road safety authorities, health professionals, digital security specialists and other stakeholders for practical training, health and wellbeing checks, and demonstrations of in-app safety tools.
Held under the theme “Your Safety, Our Priority,” the Yango Cameroon Safety Events 2026 focused on practical measures that can contribute to safer journeys, from eyesight testing and emergency-response skills to digital security awareness and the use of safety features available in the Yango app.
A key part of both events was free eyesight testing for partner drivers, alongside blood pressure and general wellness checks conducted in partnership with the Cameroon Red Cross, Calex Optics and CareHelp.
Good vision is particularly important for people who spend significant time on the road. Participants requiring corrective attention received guidance on next steps, while the broader health checks gave partner drivers an opportunity to identify potential wellbeing concerns. In Yaoundé, the Cameroon Red Cross also conducted CPR training, giving participants practical skills that can be used when responding to emergencies.
“Partner drivers play an essential role in the Yango ecosystem, which is why supporting their wellbeing goes alongside providing the technology they use every day. Basic measures such as eyesight and blood pressure checks can help drivers pay greater attention to their health, while practical safety training gives them knowledge they can
apply on the road. By bringing these elements together, we want safety to be something that is understood and practised, not simply a feature in an app,” said Dr. Clovis Pilla, Country Manager, Yango Cameroon.
Participants also received live demonstrations of safety features available in the Yango app. Partner drivers and couriers were shown how to share a live trip with a trusted contact, set an emergency contact and report an incident through the app. The short, practical walkthroughs were designed to help participants understand when and how to
use the tools available to them.
Bringing different sides of road safety together

Beyond technology and health checks, the events created a forum for discussions involving road safety authorities, law enforcement representatives, health professionals, digital security specialists and Yango Ride representatives.
The discussions addressed everyday safety challenges including driver fatigue, fraudulent calls and scams, responsible road behaviour, digital security and effective use of in-app safety tools. The sessions also highlighted the role that drivers, couriers, passengers, institutions and technology platforms can each play in contributing to safer journeys.
In Yaoundé, the event was attended by a representative of the Mayor of the City of Yaoundé, local police authorities and a representative of the Ministry of Transport. The Douala event also brought together local stakeholders and Yango Ride representatives from the country and the wider Francophone Africa region.

“It was a great initiative from Yango, and we are happy they created this opportunity for us to come together, discuss the challenges we face on the road and share our concerns. We also had the chance to talk about ways some of these challenges can be addressed. We appreciate Yango’s efforts to improve our experience, and we hope the discussions from this event will contribute to positive changes for partner drivers,” said Otabela Valery, a Yango partner driver.
Nsane Mitan Paul Sen, a Yango partner driver in Douala, added: “For me, the most valuable part was the practical knowledge we gained. From the health checks and first-aid training to learning more about the safety features, I came away with things I can apply in my daily work. I’m grateful to Yango for creating this opportunity and putting our wellbeing at the centre of the conversation.”
The events also included interactive activities designed to reinforce safety knowledge. Participants took part in a Safety Quiz Challenge covering road rules, emergency procedures and Yango safety features.
