Gisèle Pouhe Njall made history by winning the Rosemont riding in the Quebec provincial election on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Running for Québec solidaire, the Franco-Cameroonian community leader secured her seat in the National Assembly in her very first Canadian election. The victory allows Québec solidaire to retain a key stronghold previously represented by outgoing member Vincent Marissal since 2018.

Her journey in Quebec began 18 years ago when she arrived in 2008 to study journalism. What was originally intended as a short-term stay for her education eventually evolved into a permanent life in the province. She settled in Rosemont, where she established her roots and is now raising her family.

Despite earning a degree in journalism, Gisèle Pouhe Njall chose to dedicate her career to the community sector rather than working in newsrooms. Since 2024, the mother of two has served as the head of Collectif Social, a non-profit organization that collaborates with post-secondary institutions and nightlife venues to combat sexual violence among adults aged 18 to 35.

Her entry into provincial politics was formalized on July 21, 2026, after receiving the unanimous nomination from local Québec solidaire members. Throughout her campaign, she focused heavily on key local and social issues, including affordable housing, education, safe transportation, environmental protection, food deserts in eastern Rosemont, and promoting social cohesion regarding religious symbols.

Having acquired Canadian citizenship in 2023, Gisèle Pouhe Njall voted in a provincial election for the first time while simultaneously winning a seat as a lawmaker. Overcoming projected tight competition from Parti Québécois candidate Pierre-Luc Brillant, she transitions from community leadership to serving as a prominent member of Quebec’s Parliament.
