The Government of Cameroon has officially kicked off the contracting phase for the reconstruction of the Yaoundé–Edéa highway section (167 km), a critical link along the heavily traveled Yaounde-Douala economic corridor.

Following an enabling decree signed on October 2, 2026, the Minister of Public Works issued a Specific Procurement Notice on October 8, 2026. The notice invites eligible construction firms to submit sealed technical and financial bids for the major infrastructure project, which is backed by financial support from the World Bank.

Financed through a loan and credit package secured under Phase 1 of the Douala–Bangui Economic Corridor Improvement Program – PACEDB, the project aims to modernize transport infrastructure and streamline trade routes.

To accelerate execution, the 167-kilometer stretch will be reconstructed simultaneously across three distinct lots: Lot 1 spanning Yaounde to Madoumba (52.05 km), Lot 2 from Madoumba to the Ndoupé Bridge (52.05 km), and Lot 3 extending from the Ndoupé Bridge to the Edéa Junction (62.90 km).

Engineering works across the corridor will involve comprehensive roadbed reconstruction, curve realignments, and selective dualization into 2×2 lanes on high-density stretches. Specifically, dualization will cover 22.58 km on Lot 1, 10.75 km on Lot 2, and 12 km on Lot 3. Additionally, Lot 1 will feature the construction and digitalization of a modern weighbridge station to manage heavy freight loads and protect road durability.

This proactive bidding process ensures that contractors are selected and ready to deploy as execution timelines advance. Prospective contractors have until November 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. local time to submit their technical and financial proposals to the Ministry of Public Works.
