The 16th edition of the Peace Tournament reached a triumphant conclusion on August 30, 2026, at the Fampou David Dagobert stadium in New-Bell, located within the Douala 2nd municipality.
Following a month of intense local football competition, the event culminated in two championship finals designed to promote social cohesion, mutual respect, and civic unity across one of the most cosmopolitan districts in the Wouri division.
On the pitch, both championship deciders delivered decisive 2-0 victories. In the women’s category, team Unity secured the trophy over team Peace, propelled by individual standouts such as top scorer Fouda Élodie. Meanwhile, the men’s final saw Mbam Ewondo – N/Bassa – N/B Funkel claim the title against Dernier Poteau – N/B Haoussa – N/B Gare, with player Ndeumeni Kudi capturing the top scorer honors for the men’s tournament.
Distinguished administrative and local figures attended the closing ceremonies to show support for community youth. Notable guests included the Sub-Prefect of Douala 2nd, Stéphane Nke, alongside executive secretary of African Synergies and tournament sponsor Jean Stéphane Biatcha, Chief Balengou, and former Dynamo Football Club president Ms. Moaha. Their presence underscored the tournament’s evolution from a simple summer sporting event into a major catalyst for regional harmony.
A key highlight of the closing ceremony was the official declaration of the 2026 “Woman of Peace” award, following the tradition set in 2025 when Sub-Prefect Stéphane Nke was named “Man of Peace.” The sponsor of the tournament Jean Stéphane Biatcha presented the title to Douala 2 Mayor Denise Fampou, praising her sustained leadership, empathy, and dedicated efforts toward unifying local neighborhoods and driving municipal development.
Accepting the award, Mayor Fampou expressed deep gratitude to the organizers and emphasized that the distinction serves as a renewed commitment to serving her municipality. Beyond trophies and financial rewards for the champions, the organization extended support to all participating athletes by distributing solar kits ahead of the 2026–2027 academic year, ensuring every young participant received tangible assistance for their upcoming studies.
As the lights dim on this 16th edition, the Peace Tournament reinforces the vital role of grassroots athletics in building bridges between diverse communities.
