During a working visit to the Littoral region from February 19 to 21, 2026, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Malachie MANAOUDA, officially received a significant batch of equipment in Akwa, Douala. The resources are dedicated to strengthening the supply chain of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).
The 823 solar refrigerators, valued at a total cost of 7 million US dollars (approximately 4.2 billion FCFA, including 826 million FCFA contributed by the Cameroonian government), will significantly increase the proportion of health facilities equipped with certified cold chain technology. This coverage is set to jump from 47% to 82%.
The ultimate goal is clear: zero stockouts, zero waste, and zero children left behind. In addition to the cooling units, the logistics package includes: 374 off-road motorcycles designed to improve access to vaccination services in remote areas (296 funded by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and 78 through the Mastercard Foundation via Africa CDC), Two refrigerated vans, three refrigerated trucks, and three off-road pickups (already delivered in January), Two box trucks and twelve single-cabin light trucks are currently undergoing final port formalities before delivery.
As part of a push toward digitalization, 116 laptops and 12 professional printers were handed over to the EPI. These tools aim to improve document management, equipment traceability, and overall data quality.
A Vision for Efficiency
For the Minister, while vaccination remains one of the most effective public health interventions, its success relies on high-performance logistics. He emphasized:
”It is not enough to simply have vaccines. We must also guarantee their storage at the correct temperature and their delivery to the very last mile.”
The Minister issued firm instructions to the EPI regarding priority deployment to low-access areas, implementation of a preventive and curative maintenance plan and the organization of training for users and also reinforced monitoring and accountability.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the technical and financial partners, particularly Gavi, for their steadfast support in protecting the health of children and communities. He also praised the dedication of the EPI teams, regional delegations, and healthcare personnel working on the ground daily.
This major reception marks a new step toward a more resilient, modern, and equitable vaccination system in Cameroon.
