The President of the Cameroonian Senate, His Majesty Aboubakary Abdoulaye, led a high-profile diplomatic marathon in Yaounde on Thursday, July 9, 2026, granting four separate audiences at the Economic and Social Council.
The high-level meetings underscored Cameroon’s expanding parliamentary diplomacy and its central role in fostering international cooperation. Ranging from bilateral talks on infrastructural development to humanitarian support, the sessions highlighted the Senate’s proactive stance in strengthening ties with partners from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Geopolitics and multilateral diplomacy took center stage as His Majesty first received Mr. Ouch Borith, the Senior Vice-President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The high-level encounter took place on the sidelines of the 51st Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie – APF, currently being hosted in the Cameroonian capital. Later in the day, the French section of the APF was also represented when the Senate President welcomed Mr. Guillaume Chevrollier, further cementing Cameroon’s influential standing within the French-speaking parliamentary community.
In a significant bilateral exchange, the Senate President hosted His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim H.I. Al Ghamedi, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Cameroon. The Saudi envoy used the opportunity to formally congratulate His Majesty Aboubakary Abdoulaye on his election to the helm of the Senate. Their discussions focused heavily on developmental partnerships, with a strong, mutual emphasis on accelerating cooperation in vital infrastructural projects across the country.
The diplomatic session concluded with a focus on healthcare and social welfare, as His Majesty received His Excellency Mr. Jean-Christophe Heidsieck, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Cameroon. Ambassador Heidsieck presented a comprehensive overview of the Order’s ongoing interventions across the country, particularly highlighting their impact through targeted humanitarian aid and specialized medical assistance programmes.
Collectively, these four audiences showcase a dynamic Cameroonian Senate committed to driving national growth through robust international partnerships.
