Cameroon officially commemorated World Tourism Day 2026 with a high-profile ceremony hosted at the National Museum in Yaounde on September 28, 2026.

The event convened key industry stakeholders, public authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, and citizens to honor and showcase the nation’s diverse cultural heritage and tourism opportunities. Highlighting the celebration were traditional dance performances representing the country’s four major cultural regions alongside artistic and musical presentations.

Presiding over the official proceedings, the Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Gabriel Mbaïrobe, emphasized the vast array of natural and historic attractions distributed across the national territory.

During his address, the Minister announced a new initiative set to launch next year, establishing an International Tourism Day and a dedicated week of sector activities within each of Cameroon’s ten administrative regions.

The international dimension of the occasion was highlighted through the delivery of the official message from the UN Tourism Secretary-General. Minister Mbaïrobe formally acknowledged the presence of attending diplomats, praising their participation as an essential driver for strengthening international recognition and promotion of Cameroon’s tourist destinations.

Underlining the theme of innovation, the ceremony concluded with special recognition awarded to the winners of the national AI in Tourism competition.

The event successfully merged traditional heritage with modern technology, setting a forward-looking strategy for the growth of the nation’s leisure and travel sector.
