Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, has undertaken an extensive inspection tour of major state- and international partner-funded development projects across Bamenda in the North West Region.
Arriving on October 14, 2026, to a warm reception from local administrative authorities, traditional rulers, and residents, Dion Ngute’s two-day working visit highlights the state’s continued commitment to regional reconstruction under the Presidential Plan.
Accompanied by key government officials, including the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtès, the Head of Government personally evaluated progress across five key development sites within the regional capital.
Among the institutional structures visited was the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator, a key decentralized body established following the 2019 Major National Dialogue.
Project engineers briefed the delegation that the institution’s first construction phase has been fully completed, with phase two currently standing at 22 percent execution and contracts for the third phase slated for award. The Prime Minister also inspected construction works at the North West Regional Assembly edifice, an infrastructure aimed at strengthening local governance and advancing regional decentralization.
Turning his attention to critical transport networks, Dion Ngute assessed several road construction and rehabilitation initiatives funded through international partnerships. At Up Station, he evaluated the C2D-funded road project stretching from Prison Junction past the Bamenda Central Prison to Avenir Market, alongside inspecting progress at the North West Customs head office and the Customs Junction–GBHS Bamendankwe road. He further monitored ongoing works on the 6.5-kilometer World Bank-funded Bamenda Urban Crossing road, a flagship project he initially launched in September 2025, as well as the C2D-funded Fon’s Street and Food Market road sections.
The infrastructure tour concluded with an evaluation of the Mankon District Hospital rehabilitation project, currently being executed by the North West Regional Assembly to boost healthcare delivery in the region. At each location, Dion Ngute commended technical teams and site engineers for their dedication while issuing precise directives to guarantee quality execution and timely completion.
Following the site evaluations, the Prime Minister paid a traditional courtesy visit to the Mankon Fon’s Palace, reinforcing socio-cultural ties with local traditional authorities.
With the physical infrastructure assessments successfully concluded, the Prime Minister shifted his focus on October 15, 2026, toward peace-building and social cohesion initiatives. Dion Ngute is set to officially launch community dialogue sessions in Bamenda, bringing together local stakeholders to foster peace, strengthen reconciliation, and consolidate the socioeconomic recovery of the North West Region.
