Following a presidential decree issued this Friday, Cameroon has officially designated Remy NAMA as the new President of the Constitutional Council.

The top judicial appointment comes in the wake of the passing of former council president Clément ATANGANA, who recently died in Paris.

The appointment marks a critical leadership transition for Cameroon’s highest constitutional authority. The Constitutional Council plays a pivotal role in ensuring the regularity of national elections, ruling on the constitutionality of laws, and maintaining the balance of state institutions.

Remy NAMA steps into this prestigious role with an extensive background in public service and law. As a seasoned magistrate and senior civil servant, NAMA brings decades of legal expertise and legal administration experience to the council’s top seat.

Prior to his appointment, NAMA served within the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic. During his tenure at the presidency, he held key legal advisory and administrative positions, overseeing legal affairs and institutional governance.

In a related development accompanying the presidential decree, Abdoulaye DAOUDA was also appointed as a new member of the Constitutional Council. DAOUDA’s inclusion further reinforces the bench as the council prepares to handle upcoming national legal and constitutional matters.

The reorganization of the institution’s leadership is expected to provide stability and continuity in Cameroon’s legal landscape. Observers note that filling these key vacancies ensures the council remains fully operational to perform its solemn duties.

As Remy NAMA assumes leadership alongside new members like Abdoulaye DAOUDA, attention now turns to how the refreshed bench will uphold the country’s legal framework and Constitutional integrity moving forward.
