The Social Democratic Front (SDF) held an extraordinary congress on last Saturday March 01, 2025 to invest its candidate for the 2025 presidential elections.

Joshua Osih is the SDF‘s candidate for the October 2025 presidential elections in Cameroon. The party leader was endorsed by the congress last Saturday. They were attending the party’s extraordinary congress at the Yaounde Multipurpose sports complex.

During the meeting, the 57-year-old businessman was nominated as the SDF’s candidate for the next Presidential election. This will be the second time after 2018, when he won 3.35% of the vote. Ni John Fru Ndi’s successor at the head of the party will face competition from other candidates. Some have already declared their willingness to run for the Unity Palace. These include Maurice Kamto of the MRC and Cabral Libii of the PCRN, who came second and third in the 2018 presidential election behind the winner, President Paul Biya. They came second and third in the 2018 presidential election behind the winner, President Paul Biya. All four have already expressed their desire to run again in 2025.

Elsewhere, despite the time that has elapsed without a congress, candidates are seeking a mandate or more on the basis that they are statutory candidates. Joshua Osih, 57, president of the SDF since 29 October 2023, remains faithful to the party’s tradition. Some of his comrades have criticised him for raising the deposit for SDF presidential candidates to 50 million CFA francs in order to keep them out of the race.
