Cameroon’s Minister of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development – MINEPAT, Alamine Ousmane Mey, hosted Harold Tavares, Executive Director for the Africa Group II at the World Bank, in Yaounde on September 8, 2026.

The high-level audience focused on evaluating future cooperation perspectives and aligning World Bank financial and technical support with Cameroon’s national development priorities. Both parties emphasized driving investments toward high-impact economic and social sectors to accelerate regional growth.

The official meeting followed an inspection visit by Harold Tavares to the flagship Nachtigal hydroelectric dam project. With an installed capacity of 420 MW, the Nachtigal energy project serves as a concrete benchmark of World Bank-backed infrastructure investments aimed at expanding electricity supply, lowering energy costs, and facilitating industrial development throughout Cameroon.

Through this reinforced bilateral dynamic, the Cameroonian government and the World Bank intend to heighten public sector efficiency and optimize project delivery timelines. A central priority remains accelerating the implementation of the National Development Strategy 2020–2030 – SND30, which serves as the country’s economic blueprint for structural transformation, job creation, and sustainable governance.

The Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development – MINEPAT continues to act as the primary coordinator for international financial partnerships, seeking to channel external resources into sustainable and inclusive development.

This renewed commitment with the World Bank reflects a shared vision to build resilient infrastructure and expand access to essential public services across the country.
