Jean Pierre Robins Ghoumo replaces Léopold Maxime Eko Eko following a presidential decree published yesterday December 19, 2023.
The Directorate General of External Research (DGRE) is the institution in charge of protecting Cameroon from international threats. By decree N°2023/572 of 19 December 2023, the Head of State dismissed Léopold Maxime Eko Eko, who had been in charge since 2010, and entrusted his post to Jean Pierre Robins Ghoumo.
The new boss is a graduate of the diplomacy field from the Cameroon Institute of International Relations. He was technical adviser to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Internal Affairs department. In addition to this, he has been at the head of the private office of the Minister of State, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic.
His first task at the DGRE will undoubtedly be to restore the credibility of this institution, which has been weakened by its involvement in the assassination of Martinez Zogo. Two of the main suspects in the Martinez Zogo case, his former head of intelligence, Maxime Eko Eko, who was arrested on February 7, 2023, and his director of operations, Justin Danwe, are in prison.
To assist Jean Pierre Robins Ghoumo, the Head of State appointed Mesmin Magloire Aristide Eloundou as Deputy Director General of the DGRE. Colonel Eloundou was Deputy Director of Central Coordination and Director of Employment and Structures at the Secretariat of State for Defence at the time of his appointment.
