Following the official launch ceremony for the reconstruction of the Ngaoundere–Garoua road, Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi inspected the site operations of China Harbour Engineering Company – CHEC.
The visit focused on the 39-kilometer Bas Falaise–Keroua Bridge section located in the Adamawa Region. Accompanied by the Governor of the Adamawa Region, the Minister inspected the progress, commending the traffic management measures put in place and urging the contractor to maintain both speed and strict compliance with technical specifications.
During the site tour, CHEC’s teams reaffirmed their commitment to delivering the project in full accordance with contractual terms and safety requirements. Visible progress is already underway on the ground: structural bases are taking shape, foundation works for the crushing plant are advancing alongside detailed execution studies, and an earthworks test section has been completed. Furthermore, the deployment of the official inspection and control team is scheduled for the coming days to oversee quality assurance.
The reconstruction of the critical Ngaoundere–Garoua highway forms the centerpiece of Phase 4 of the Transport Sector Support Program. Co-financed by the Republic of Cameroon and the African Development Bank – AfDB with a total budget of 222,808,914,190 FCFA, the comprehensive infrastructure project is divided into five distinct construction packages.
To maximize its impact, the initiative encompasses direct road works, comprehensive technical supervision, weigh station construction, rest areas, and 15 kilometers of urban road developments across Ngaoundere, Mbé, Gamba, Gouna, and Ngong.
Beyond the main artery, the 222 billion FCFA package funds extensive rural feeder road rehabilitations to unlock agricultural basins in Northern Cameroon.
Key interventions include the Poli–Poli (39 km) and Tcholliré–Taboun–Bandjoukri–Banda (100 km) sections in the North Region, as well as the Ngaoundere–Tourningal (60 km) and Mbé–Sassa–Mounguel (103 km) stretches in the Adamawa Region. Social initiatives targeting women and youth in the Vina, Faro, Mayo-Rey, and Bénoué divisions are also integrated, alongside dedicated support for biodiversity conservation inside Bénoué National Park.
Finally, the multi-sectoral financing provides strategic investments across transport safety, trade, and higher education. Key activities include supplying speed radars for the Ministry of Transport, establishing a road safety Geographic Information System – GIS, installing meteorological stations in Ngaoundere and Garoua, and funding feasibility studies for the Garoua river port and the Ngaoundere logistics hub.
Institutional support is also allocated to the University of Ngaoundere’s School of Chemical Engineering and Mineral Industries – EGCIM and the strategic development of the Douala–N’Djamena corridor.
