The Speaker of the National Assembly, the Right Honourable Theodore Datouo, granted an audience to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Cameroon, His Excellency Ibrahim Al-Ghamedi, on July 6, 2026.

Held at the Speaker’s Cabinet in Yaoundé, the high-level meeting provided a timely opportunity to review and strengthen the longstanding and cordial diplomatic ties between both nations. Ambassador Al-Ghamedi took the occasion to extend warm congratulations to the Right Honourable Speaker on his recent election to the helm of the National Assembly, while reaffirming Riyadh’s firm commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with Cameroon.

Discussions during the audience focused heavily on expanding bilateral relations through targeted legislative collaboration, particularly within economic sectors vital to sustainable development. Both parties emphasized the importance of boosting joint efforts in agriculture, renewable energy, mining, infrastructure development, and healthcare to drive shared prosperity. A critical component of these economic talks involved exploring an increased contribution from the Saudi Fund for Development to support major, ongoing developmental projects across Cameroon’s regions.

A significant outcome of the diplomatic encounter was the announcement of an upcoming official visit by a delegation from the Cameroon–Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Friendship Group to Saudi Arabia before the end of the year. This legislative exchange is anticipated to consolidate parliamentary diplomacy and create a stronger framework for mutual governance support.

Furthermore, a formal invitation was extended to the Saudi business community, encouraging them to visit Cameroon and explore the vast, diverse investment opportunities available within the country’s developing markets.

Reiterating a shared vision for global harmony, both dignitaries concluded the meeting by pledging their continued alignment toward promoting peace and sustainable regional growth. Reflecting the high stakes of the bilateral engagement, the audience was attended by several prominent parliamentary officials. These included Honourable Hamadou Sali, President of the Cameroon–Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Friendship Group; Professor Isaac Tamba, Director of the Speaker’s Cabinet; and Essian André Noël, the Clerk of the House.
