The preparatory phases for Cameroon’s National Unity Day are officially underway in the Country, serving as an annual showcase of the expertise and cohesion of the nation’s Defense and Security Forces.

This highly anticipated event is designed to honor and strengthen the vital bond between the Army and the Nation, a core priority for the Head of State. In the buildup to the landmark 54th edition, these early exercises set a rigorous standard for the main celebrations, reflecting the country’s commitment to national stability and pride.

Marking the official start of these preparations, the various branches of the Cameroonian Defense and Security forces gathered at the May 20th Boulevard on Sunday, May 17, 2026, for their first joint parade rehearsal.

The units were joined by personnel from the Penitentiary Administration and Cameroon Customs. This strategic exercise was conducted under the direct supervision of high-ranking officials, including Joseph Beti Assomo, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, alongside General Officers led by the Major General of the Armed Forces General Staff.

The parade proceedings commenced with an impressive carrousel display by the National Gendarmerie, aptly titled “ONE CAMEROON.” Following this musical prelude, the troops were officially led onto the boulevard by Brigadier General Guy Merlin Chembou Zambou, Commander of Sector No. 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force – MNJTF in the Lake Chad Basin.

Assisting him as Second-in-Command was Colonel Benjamin Patrick Mbarga, who serves as the Technical Advisor to the Minister of Defense at the Secretariat of State for the National Gendarmerie.

Throughout the session, the soldiers demonstrated exemplary discipline, executing every formation with strict precision under the watchful eyes of their superior officers. The synchronized cadence of marching boots combined with the initial melodies of the military brass bands to create an atmosphere charged with pride and professionalism.

The successful first day concluded on a highly positive note that established a solid foundation for the general rehearsals scheduled that took place this Monday, May 18, 2026.
