Under the coordination of Madam NANA née TSAPAC Solange, Head of the Road Safety and Traffic Brigade at the Ministry of Transport, a targeted road safety awareness drive took place on September 14, 2026.

Sensitization teams visited Ecole Publique d’Olezoa, Collège Jean TABI, and a commercial motorcycle hub at Total Ecole de Police. The initiative forms part of a broader nationwide campaign launched on September 7, 2026, by the Minister of Transport to protect young learners and regulate commercial transit during the high-traffic back-to-school season.

The educational teams actively engaged students and pupils using interactive methods, including question-and-answer sessions, practical games, and safety rewards.

Focus was placed on explaining the highway code, proper road navigation, and establishing safe daily practices. To ensure lasting impact, transport officials urged school authorities to set up dedicated road safety clubs and appoint focal points responsible for monitoring student safety moving forward.

The intervention addresses significant geographical hazards surrounding educational institutions in Yaoundé. Molo Roger Bertin, Director of Ecole Publique d’Olezoa Group 2A, highlighted that his school complex is encircled by busy intersections and runs alongside a railway line. He expressed relief and gratitude for the brigade’s presence, noting that daily commutes are a source of constant concern for both school administrators and parents in the Yaounde III municipality.

In parallel with school visits, the campaign directly targeted commercial motorcycle drivers (bike men) stationed near Police School junction. Officers stressed the non-negotiable use of helmets, proper LED headlamp compliance, speed limit adherence, and the dangers of passenger overloading. Mounchili Joseph, Regional President of the National Syndicate of Drivers in Cameroon – SYNCHCAM, commended the drive as a necessary wake-up call to foster civic responsibility and prevent road traffic injuries.

The sixth day of the national campaign concluded with the widespread distribution of instructional safety flyers and pamphlets. The active participation and positive reception from educators, students, and transport operators reflect strong community support for zero-tolerance accident goals in school zones.
