In the framework of the Global week of action for peace and climate justice and in anticipation of COP31 in Antalya, JVE Cameroon joined forces with ADEV for the “Hike for Climate Justice” on Mount Nkolso’o in Yaounde.
The event, which took place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, began at Carrefour MEEC, setting an energetic tone for a day designed to bridge health consciousness with vital ecological action. Participants from diverse backgrounds gathered to align their commitment to environmental preservation with an empowering outdoor activity.
The journey began with a focus on physical well-being as participants engaged in warm-ups and stretching before hitting the trail to walk up the mountain. Accompanying their steps was a panoply of placards held high, bearing messages geared towards environmental safety, such as “Pollute less today, live well tomorrow,” “Act today for a greener tomorrow,” and “Zero pollution, Planet heroes”. This deliberate emphasis on physical endurance highlighted the deep connection between personal health and a thriving environment, demonstrating that personal fitness mirrors the resilience required for long-term climate advocacy.
Upon reaching the summit, the physical trek transitioned into a dynamic space for climate dialogue and intellectual exchange. Sitting together at the top, participants engaged in structured discussions around energy transition, regional pollution, and the exploitation of natural resources.
The gathering served as a vital forum to amplify the voices of African communities and brainstorm actionable strategies to promote renewable energy across the continent ahead of upcoming global summits.
To reinforce key concepts, the summit program featured an interactive, competitive learning game focused on COP negotiations and climate history. Participants raced to grab a bottle to earn the right to answer challenging questions, creating a constructive and engaging atmosphere.
Far from a simple lecture, the session fostered collaborative conversations specifically tailored to the pressing climate challenges facing Cameroon and the broader African region.
The Mount Nkolso’o hike successfully demonstrated how active physical engagement can elevate environmental advocacy. By combining bodily wellness with meaningful dialogue, JVE Cameroon and ADEV mobilized citizens to take ownership of both their health and their planet.
