Following heavy flooding on July 19, 2026, which severely damaged the Mayo Guelling section of the long-distance pipeline supplying drinking water to Mora and Kolofata, Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation – CAMWATER rapidly deployed emergency teams to the site.

Within 24 hours of the incident, technicians located the break and isolated the damaged pipe via sectioning valves to prevent excessive water loss. These swift initial hydraulic repairs stabilized the system and set the stage for comprehensive structural restoration.

​To protect the critical utility line against future extreme weather events, the focus quickly shifted from quick fixes to long-term reinforcement. Engineering teams began constructing heavy-duty reinforced concrete pads designed to anchor the pipeline securely to the terrain. This structural upgrading aims to insulate the network from climatic hazards, erosion, and recurring seasonal flooding, thereby ensuring long-term operational resilience for the region’s water supply.

​Despite these efforts, execution faced notable hurdles due to local logistical and environmental challenges. Progress was slowed by the considerable distance required to transport gravel and essential raw materials to the remote site. Furthermore, persistent security conditions in the area mandated early daily shutdowns for field workers, compressing the working window available to the technical crews each day.

​Despite these constraints, CAMWATER anticipated completing the final three concrete blocks by Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The conclusion of this heavy masonry work paves the way for the gradual refilling of the strategic pipeline, bringing clean, reliable drinking water back to the residents of Mora and Kolofata.
