Last August 10, 2024, the governor of the Far North region, Midjiyawa Bakari, presided over a farewell ceremony for more than 50 families of Nigerian refugees who had decided to return home. This voluntary repatriation operation is the result of a joint effort by the Cameroonian and Nigerian authorities to find lasting solutions to the refugees’ problems. It demonstrates the willingness of both countries to work together to promote peace, stability and development in the region.
Honourable Lawan Abba Wakine, Representative of the governor of Borno State in Nigeria, expressed his deep gratitude to Head of State Paul Biya and to Cameroon’s government for their welcome and support to the Nigerian refugees. He praised the south-south cooperation between the two countries, which makes it possible to respond to humanitarian challenges and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between peoples.
The voluntary repatriation of these 242 Nigerian refugees is an important step in the humanitarian cooperation between Cameroon and Nigeria. It shows that through solidarity and cooperation, countries can overcome humanitarian challenges and strengthen their bonds of brotherhood.
