The Warda neighborhood located at the heart of the Yaounde capital city became the epicenter of African football this Wednesday, May 13, 2026, as the new administrative complex of the Cameroon Football Federation – FECAFOOT was officially commissioned.
The inauguration of edifice placed under the leadership of the Federation’s President Samuel Eto’o was presided over by Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute. The ceremony drew an elite gathering of government officials, football legends, and international dignitaries.
The unveiling of this modern facility is being hailed by supporters and officials alike as a defining moment, signaling a bold new chapter for the sport in a nation with a storied footballing history.
The event was graced by high-profile figures, most notably Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football – CAF, who lauded Samuel Eto’o for his visionary leadership and personal sacrifices.
Motsepe was joined by African icons Jay-Jay Okocha and El Hadji Diouf, who witnessed the tributes paid to the “Indomitable” legacy. Murals at the entrance, featuring legendary goalkeepers such as Thomas N’Kono and Joseph-Antoine Bell, served as a poignant reminder of the heritage that the new building aims to preserve and professionalize.
In a deeply moving speech, Samuel Eto’o paid homage to former FECAFOOT president Iya Mohamed, who originally launched the project in 2010. Acknowledging that the dream began over 14 years ago, Eto’o credited Mohamed’s foresight for envisioning an administration worthy of the national team’s prowess.
The federation president invited the crowd to stand in applause for his predecessor, ensuring that while the building is modern, its foundations are rooted in the continuity of Cameroonian football history.
Strategic partnerships played a crucial role in bringing the 14-year project to fruition. Eto’o publicly thanked Nigerian billionaire Tony Elumelu and the United Bank for Africa – UBA for providing the essential financial backing after a personal appeal in Lagos.
Beyond administrative functions, the building will also serve as the home of the FECAFOOT Foundation. In a significant appointment, Eto’o announced that the legendary Roger Milla—whom he described as both an idol and a father figure—will serve as the Foundation’s president from within these new walls.
The inauguration, which included a sports walk and vibrant cultural exhibitions, was more than a mere ribbon-cutting; it was a statement of institutional ambition. With the presence of national coach David Pagou and Eto’o’s own family, the day felt like a communal victory for the “Lions.”
