The Autonomous Port of Kribi known as PAK recently showcased a bold industrial transformation strategy during the Africa CEO Forum 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda.
As a Gold Partner of the event, PAK officials highlighted the official launch of the Kribi Port Industrial Zone – KPIZ, a massive initiative designed to stimulate industrialization and value creation across Central Africa. This presentation underscores Kribi’s evolution from a maritime transit point to a foundational pillar of regional economic growth.
Operational data from 2025 reveals the port’s significant fiscal impact, including the handling of over 550,000 TEUs and 12.7 million tons of goods. These activities translated into 35.3 billion FCFA in direct revenue and a substantial 350 billion FCFA contribution to Cameroon’s customs revenue.
Such figures demonstrate PAK’s growing capacity to manage high-volume international trade while serving as a vital financial engine for the state.
The strategy moving forward centers on the development of a 4,000-hectare integrated zone that blends logistics, industry, and energy services. With an estimated investment of €795 million, the Kribi Port Industrial Zone is designed to accelerate the local processing of natural resources.
By moving beyond simple exportation, Cameroon aims to capture more value within the domestic economy and reduce reliance on finished imports.
A major focus of the Kigali summit was the potential for job creation and regional connectivity. Projections suggest that the KPIZ could generate between 110,000 and 150,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a significant boost to the national labor market. Furthermore, its strategic links to the hinterlands of Central Africa and Nigeria position the port as a critical gateway for regional competitiveness.
Ultimately, PAK’s participation in the forum reflects a broader commitment to African economic sovereignty. By controlling strategic infrastructure and prioritizing local processing, the port is positioning itself as a model for integrated economic development.
The vision seeks to ensure that Cameroon and the wider region play a more dominant and self-sufficient role in global supply chains.
