The Board of Directors of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee – CNOSC convened an extraordinary session on Monday, May 25, 2026, at its headquarters in Yaounde to restructure its executive leadership following a sudden institutional vacuum.

The emergency meeting was prompted by the death of the committee’s long-serving president, Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, who passed away on May 13, 2026. In a unanimous decision, the board resolved to organize an official tribute ceremony on July 4, 2026, to honor the late president’s legacy and extensive contributions to Cameroon’s sporting ecosystem.

In accordance with Article 70 of the CNOSC Statutes, the board officially took note of the presidential vacancy and approved the immediate promotion of Mr. Grégoire Owona, formerly the 1st Vice-President, to the position of interim President.

Owona will steer the committee’s administration and management until the next Elective General Assembly is organized. This leadership shift triggered a subsequent reconfiguration of the executive bureau, elevating Mrs. Ntsama Assembe Célestine Odette née Engoulou to 1st Vice-President and installing Mr. Talba Malla Ibrahim as the 2nd Vice-President, while leaving the 3rd Vice-President seat temporarily vacant.

To ensure total legal and structural continuity, the board officially granted President Owona full administrative and managerial authority to oversee the institution’s operations. Furthermore, the newly appointed president was empowered to convene an extraordinary session of the CNOSC General Assembly during the second half of September 2026 to address long-term governance.

The official resolutions were co-signed and validated in Yaoundé by the newly elevated President Grégoire Owona and the returning Secretary General, David Ojong, alongside Treasurer General Timba Majoré Louis.
