The Yaounde Regional Council Hall became a center of cultural solemnity and state diplomacy on June 25, 2026, for the official launch of the poignant new book, “The Fon of Nso and the Anglophone Crisis: A Testimony for Reconciliation and Peace.”

The high-profile event drew an esteemed audience, including prominent members of government, diplomatic representatives, administrative heads, religious leaders, and a powerful delegation of more than ten traditional authorities. Highlighting the state’s endorsement, the Minister of Arts and Culture was represented by the Ministry’s Secretary General, who was accompanied by the Inspector General and several senior officials from MINAC to witness this monumental royal milestone.

Spanning 173 pages, the book provides a raw, first-hand compendium of information documenting the Fon’s intense struggles and the harrowing ordeal of those captured alongside him by armed separatists. Far from trying to throw a pity party, capitalize on public emotion, or reopen healing wounds, the narrative seeks to throw a definitive light on what transpired, explain why it matters, and underscore why such atrocities must never be repeated. Beyond the captivity account, readers are treated to a rare look at the intricate enthronement process of the Fon, solidarity messages from neighboring Fons, and a profound, overarching goodwill message from His Majesty himself.

The publication stands primarily as a tool for peace, community dialogue, and absolute respect for human life, targeted at all Nso sons and daughters both at home and in the diaspora. It serves as a stark, universal reminder that no matter how deep the socio-political crisis plunges, communities must never lose their core humanity toward one another. The book forcefully argues that armed conflict leaves only ashes in its wake and never a sustainable solution, urging all parties to carry their historical scars with dignity and summon the immense courage required to forgive.

The launch ceremony was filled with diverse, moving segments, including vibrant cultural interludes featuring traditional songs and reflective theatrical sketches. A solemn tribute was paid to the Fon of Nso by the Cameroon Youth and Students Forum for Peace – CAMYOSFOP, followed by the official signing of the royal copy of the text.

The launch proper was spearheaded by several chief launchers, notably the representative of the Speaker of the National Assembly, the representative of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Prof. Blaise Jacques Nkené, and the Secretary of State to the Minister of Basic Education, Asheri Kilo, among a host of other dignitaries.

Demonstrating concrete institutional support, the Ministry of Arts and Culture kicked off the financial launch by purchasing an initial ten copies, while simultaneously setting wheels in motion to acquire a substantial stock for the ministry’s Department of Books and Reading as well as the Central Library. To draw the curtains on the memorable gathering, the Fon’s official messenger stepped forward to convey His Majesty’s deep appreciation to the Nso community and well-wishers who made the event a success.

He reminded the audience that the ceremony is not the end of a journey, but rather the beginning of a collective march toward choosing peace over hate, and structured dialogue over division.
