Several shops were burnt down yesterday, 25 December 2023, by a locally made explosive device at the T-junction in the North West Region Headquarters.

It was already a tough day in Bamenda last Monday. This is mainly due to the traditional ghost town every Monday. Adding to this sad situation, an explosion occurred on Christmas Day, destroying three makeshift shops at the T-junction.

The origin of the explosives remains unclear, although many say that only separatist fighters could be responsible for such an deed, as this form of violence is often associated with separatist groups: “This is how the Amba boys operate; they plant explosives targeting the military, but end up harming the helpless population. Look at the destruction in these hard times,” said one resident of the town.

An eyewitness lamented the extensive damage caused by the blast. “My brother’s clothes shop was completely burnt down. The fruit in a nearby kiosk was also affected by the flames,” he said.
