During the recent National Management Days in Douala, the General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications -CAMTEL, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, revealed the strategic blueprint behind the state telecom utility’s historic financial surge.
Addressing an elite panel of corporate executives and policymakers, the CAMTEL chief announced that the company nearly doubled its performance over a seven-year period, with revenues soaring from 119 billion FCFA to over 235 billion FCFA. This massive growth culminated in a net profit exceeding 13 billion FCFA for the 2025 fiscal year, remarkably achieved without any additional financial investments from stakeholders.
The cornerstone of this financial turnaround relies heavily on a comprehensive revenue digitalization initiative. By transitioning to a 100% digital model for all fixed-line subscriptions and bill payments, CAMTEL successfully eliminated critical financial leakages and fully secured its primary income streams. This operational shift not only streamlined consumer transactions but also ensured greater accountability in the utility’s day-to-day financial tracking.
In tandem with technological upgrades, Mrs. Achidi leveraged her 32 years of corporate experience to spearhead vital institutional and cultural reforms. The company underwent a strict governance overhaul that introduced absolute openness in recruitment processes to foster an internal culture of meritocracy.
Additionally, a rigorous cultural modernization campaign was launched across the organization, enforcing high-performance standards across all tiers of the workforce to boost overall productivity.
The presentation concluded with an interactive Q&A session, framing CAMTEL’s internal recovery as a masterclass in public sector management. By demonstrating how operational efficiency, digital tracking, and structural governance can drive immense corporate growth from within, the session positioned CAMTEL’s current business model as a primary benchmark for structural reform across Central Africa’s public and para-public enterprise sectors.
