As part of the continuous strengthening of bilateral relations, the Republic of Cameroon and the Central African Republic have consolidated their strategic partnership. This momentum materialized on June 18, 2026, in Motcheboum—a locality situated in the municipality, Haut-Nyong Division, East Region of Cameroon—through a major bilateral meeting on cross-border security.
Jointly chaired by Joseph BETI ASSOMO, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence of Cameroon, and his Central African counterpart, Rameaux-Claude BIREAU, Minister of National Defence and Army Reconstruction, this highly strategic meeting was dedicated to a thorough evaluation of the security situation along their shared border, as well as exploring ways and means to guarantee its optimal security in the face of shared challenges and threats.
Placed under the very high impulse of Their Excellencies Paul BIYA, President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Cameroon, and Professor Faustin-Archange TOUADÉRA, President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Central African Republic, this high-level meeting crowned two days of intensive work.
The sessions provided an opportunity to review existing operational frameworks and systematically follow up on resolutions from previous consultations.
The discussions, characterized by fraternity and mutual trust, focused notably on the rigorous control of their nearly 800-kilometer-long shared border, the dynamic sharing of intelligence, capacity building for military personnel, and increased operational coordination between the Defence and Security Forces of both states.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, both Ministers welcomed with satisfaction the quality of the deliberations led by military and civilian experts, reaffirming their unwavering determination to tackle cross-border threats through concerted and vigorous action. To this end, they emphasized that the security, stability, and prosperity of Cameroon and the Central African Republic remain intrinsically and closely linked.
This major consultative meeting thus marks a new decisive step in strengthening the age-old military ties between Yaounde and Bangui. It brilliantly reflects the shared determination of both Heads of State to sustainably promote peace, collective security, and stability in the Central African sub-region.
