A devastating fire recently tore through the administrative block of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, reducing critical sections—including the Central Pharmacy, Statistics Unit, and the General Supervisor’s Office—to ashes.
The blaze destroyed vital equipment, infrastructure, and crucial hospital records, severely disrupting administrative services essential to the daily operations of one of the North West Region’s leading referral institutions. In the immediate aftermath, key administrators, such as the General Supervisor, were forced to operate out of borrowed spaces, hindering their ability to manage staff and receive clinical students.
Recognizing the urgent need for operational continuity, Edison Fru Ndi, the Chief Executive Officer of Dreamland Connect, stepped forward with a swift and substantial intervention. The local businessman donated premium office equipment and supplies valued at 3.5 million FCFA to completely furnish a temporary workspace for the hospital’s General Supervisor. Fru Ndi emphasized that his actions were rooted in civic responsibility rather than mere charity, stating that the public hospital belongs to the community and it is the duty of local elites to protect and support it during times of crisis.
The comprehensive donation effectively recreated a fully functional workspace from scratch, restoring both functionality and dignity to the supervisor’s daily operations. The package included high-end furniture such as an executive desk, chairs, and document storage cupboards, alongside essential electronics like a 50-inch Smart TV, an air conditioner, a refrigerator, and a 3-in-1 color printer. To ensure the office could function seamlessly from day one, Fru Ndi even provided smaller necessities, including glassware, teacups, coffee makers, and refreshments.
Hospital officials expressed immense gratitude for the timely gesture during the handover ceremony. The Director of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, Dr. Nsame Denis, and General Supervisor Ngunjuah Franklen highlighted how vital the office is for managing hundreds of paramedical staff and supervising clinical students. They noted that while larger state-led rebuilding projects take time, keeping healthcare administration running smoothly remains the institution’s immediate priority to prevent prolonged disruptions in patient care.
Fru Ndi’s swift response aligns with a broader wave of community solidarity across the region, including a public fundraising campaign launched by Felix Mbayu that has already mobilized over 40 million FCFA from diverse citizens and leaders.
Concurrently, the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, has committed government technical experts to assess the destruction and design a comprehensive, permanent reconstruction plan. While complete rehabilitation lies ahead, this targeted corporate donation serves as a powerful symbol of resilience, proving that collective local action can successfully bridge the gap during major public emergencies.
