The government is working to develop a local arm industry in the North region.

Reducing Cameroon’s dependence on arms imports. This is the aim of the new military strategy that the government is working on. The information was released by the National Institute of Statistics.

The creation of this new factory will help to reduce the 5.5 billion spent on arms imports in 2023. The new factory is to be set up in partnership with the Turkish government and will be located in Garoua. This follows a speech by the Minister of Defence, Joseph Beti Assoma, in which he highlighted an agreement signed with Turkey in 2023.

Specialists say the country’s demand for arms has increased in recent years due to the various crises rocking the country in the North West, South West and Far North regions.
