Corruption : Cameroon Loses More Than F114 Billion

The President of the National Anti-Corruption Commission presented the 13th report on the state of corruption in Cameroon last September 26, 2024 in Yaounde.

According to the 13th report on the state of corruption in Cameroon, the losses in 2023 are 109 billion 412 million 503 thousand 584 CFA francs higher than the losses in 2022. Over the last three reports, the amount of corruption-related losses has fluctuated up and down. In 2022, the country suffered losses of 4.62 billion CFA francs. Presenting the 2022 report in October 2023, the President of CONAC underscored an 89% decrease compared to the 43.947 billion CFA francs in losses recorded in 2021.
The President of CONAC explained the increase in 2023 by “the number of cases that gave rise to the 16 investigative missions of CONAC, the 43 decisions of the Budgetary and Financial Disciplinary Council and the Special Criminal Court, as well as the nature of the cases that gave rise to the investigative missions of CONAC and the decisions of the Budgetary and Financial Disciplinary Council and the Special Criminal Court”.
The latest report also reveals an increase in acts of corruption in the education sector, in the public sector such as town councils… In the education sector, for example, the denunciations concern the payment of money for the recruitment of students, the purchase of places and influence peddling. In the decentralised local authorities, they concern, among other things, the demand for payment for the issue of civil status certificates.
