Cameroon has officially launched its National Digital Health Strategic Plan (PSNSN) 2026-2030, marking a pivotal shift toward the structural transformation of the country’s healthcare system.

The launching ceremony, that held on March 4, 2026, at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé, was presided over by Mr. Boukar, Inspector General of Administrative Services, representing the Minister of Public Health. This new roadmap aims to leverage digital technology as a strategic tool for modernization, performance, equity, and national sovereignty in healthcare delivery.

The 2026-2030 plan is built on the foundations of the previous 2020-2024 strategy. While evaluations conducted in 2025 showed notable progress in governance and health information systems, the current maturity level of the system is estimated at 1.8 out of 5. To address this, the new plan focuses on institutional, legal, and financial consolidation. It envisions a fully integrated, interoperable, and secure digital health ecosystem by 2030 that is inclusive, patient-centered, and guarantees the protection of sensitive health data.

With a total budget of 29,007,000,000 FCFA over five years, the strategy is organized around eight priority axes, including legislation, human resources, infrastructure, and innovation. This significant financial commitment is expected to reduce patient waiting times, improve access to specialized care in remote areas, and enhance transparency through better data traceability. Furthermore, the plan serves as a critical pillar for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and managing future health emergencies with greater agility.

The implementation of this ambitious roadmap will rely on multisectoral governance involving government ministries, technical and financial partners, the private sector, and academic institutions.

According to the officials, the digital transformation is no longer just a goal but an active process requiring collective mobilization. By positioning digital health as a vector for national sovereignty, Cameroon is setting a strategic compass to guide its health sector toward a more efficient and technologically advanced future.
